My programs are about the necessary skills, mindset, passion, joy, and other tangible and intangible conditions, that maximize expression and communication through music. I use percussion instruments to teach these ideas. These programs are for percussionists, non-percussionists and professionals of all levels. They are highly interactive, they stress creativity, and they motivate learning through listening, seeing, feeling and playing. Students are engaged, regardless of their playing level, or level of shyness.

Rhythmic Roots/Foundation and Expression | This program focuses on snare drum technique, time development, relaxation, centering our time, flowing rhythm, acute listening, and performing everything at ease, to maximize freedom and expression. This class includes instructor performances and student participation. Participants will learn about internalizing time and using a shaker to sharpen rhythm.

A Great Percussion Section | Whether it’s concert band, symphony orchestra or percussion ensemble, this class focuses on playing as one unit, with the entire ensemble. Students learn how to set up a percussion section, tune instruments, achieve optimal sounds, balance the section, and various other skills that foster precision and music-making. Triangle, tambourine, bass drum and cymbal playing are addressed.

Hand Drumming Residency | This residency can be taught in five sessions, an entire semester, or in a more customized time frame. Participants learn about the African influence on hand drumming styles in the Americas, and music from Cuba (Rhumba/Guaguanco) and Brazil (Samba). Participants perform various styles and techniques, in a semi-circle around the instructor for maximum interaction. Perfect for current educators.

Timpani Basics & Repertoire | My programs are about communication through music. The necessary skills, mind set, passion, joy and other tangible and intangible conditions that maximize expression and communication. I use percussion instruments to teach these ideas. It's great for all grade levels, and professionals seeking to improve their skills. Each presentation is highly interactive, stresses creativity and motivates learning. This class covers the essentials of timpani playing. Topics include intonation, time and rhythmic ease and precision, beautiful sound production, clear articulation, insightful phrasing, solo repertoire, orchestral repertoire and the benefits of timpani technique on other percussion instruments.

Preparing A College Audition | My programs are about communication through music. The necessary skills, mind set, passion, joy and other tangible and intangible conditions that maximize expression and communication. I use percussion instruments to teach these ideas. It's great for all grade levels, and professionals seeking to improve their skills. Each presentation is highly interactive, stresses creativity and motivates learning. Discussions, demonstrations and student participation in all aspects of preparing a classical percussion audition. Topics include solo and orchestral repertoire on snare drum, all keyboards and timpani. Repertoire is based on the schools/festivals to which students apply. Students will learn about short term and long term practice goals, mock auditions and self-critique through frequent recording.
